What's in a name you say?

So when we all went to school (hopefully, that was not so long ago, and if it was, we promise we won't mention it) we all learnt this one chapter in Chemistry- nomenclature. While it probably seemed tedious even then, as to why a nitrite would differ from a nitrate, fact remains, that naming/branding is a crucial part of anything and everything that holds little significance to us. So when Boho Lata and me thought this concoction of a blog up, we spent about 2 days tryign to find the 'right' name for it. Yes, we're slow people. We like things at our own sweet pace...

So Fou Fou, if I may take the liberty to explain, to the uninitiated, stands for anything that could classify as 'urban hi-class'. As the explanation suggests, we're urban. Hi-class or not is then only a matter of perception! Most times, in conversation, when we say Fou Fou (prncd- foo-foo) we mean someone with a self proclaimed fine taste in life. And Fou Fou Latas (plural of Lata if you haven't figured yet;yes, welcome to the slow people club) really defines what we can never escape, and probably wouldn't escape-our innate Indian-ness. So while fashion (our obsession) can dictate trends, govern styles, and keep a hawk eye on the way the world dresses, the FouFou Latas' manage to overlook this idiosyncrasy and bring to you, our own perspective, our own desi-twist :)

Coz who says that the most stylish people are found in only Paris, New York or Milan. A trip down Linking Road (Bandra, Bombay) will leave you heady with the myriad colours, fabrics and fusion women of all shapes and sizes manage to conjure up. Coz you see, fashion was never about following, it was forever about creating... :)

It does take two to start a 'Brainwave'...

Honestly speaking, we're deeply concerned. Sometimes disgustingly appalled.

Because we wonder, whether it's us two lambs trapped in a time warp of sense and sensibility?

Or is it today's 'miscontrued fashion' gone so wrong, wrong, wrong that you can't help asking why, why, why?

Hey, don't get us wrong. We love our fashion. We embrace it like a lifesaver - no matter the mood or season or the office meeting or dinner date or night at sidey club.
We applaud good tastes, good trends, good matches in apparel-accessories, good psychedelic prints, good bling, good glam-bam, good cuts, good symmetries- maybe even ( but mostly rare) good experiments. We also gratefully bow before great achievements in brillaint makeover decisions of some former conjobs (read: celebrities, commonly referred to as saalee-breetays)

But we have to put our Jimmy Choo-stilletoed foot down when we see any form of its abuse, or bad conduct, or just plain stupidity. Which sadly enough, we have been exposed to quite a lot lately. Every age and sex is a victim. Every age and sex is also guilty of starting a fit-to-be-banished trend.

Put simply, we'd like to help.

Call it charity. Call it a naive effort. Or hey, maybe you should call it a brilliant idea.

We do wish to open your eyes - and maybe even help you apply the right eye shadow colour that best matches your skin. Or help you select the best framed spectacles or sunglasses (and NOT goggles!)

Stuck in shades of grey? We'll introduce you to colours. And prints. And shiny sequins.
Floating in bags of flimsy films of cloth? We'll get you acquainted with your potential BFFS- cotton, linen and many more wonderful fabrics. You'll discover one cut to the other - from A-lines and straight fits to bellowing bottoms and salsa flares.
We'll help you find the best shoes, bags, belts, jewellery in town that are worth every penny you've saved for your shopping budget.

Ultimately, your sense of fashion is ultimately one-fourth of your ideals/beliefs, self-esteem and the remaining three-fourth your wardrobe (well, unless your mother's your primary shopper we'll reconsider the equation).

And also , that your beauty quotient is who YOU are first - and then we'll let your apparrel speak.

So here's two regular shoppers. Two women, with two completely different tastes in food, fashion, music. But both brand conscious. Both lovers of the classic and simple yet beautiful. Both fashion well-versed and observant like hawks. Both 'velas' maybe, yet both with strong skillsets of trendsetting and creativity.

And of course, highly critical. Highly opinionated.

So do watch your back and your hemline. Because the Fou-fou latas will prowling the streets soon...
